What is RomHaven?
Think of RomHaven as a quality-first directory (with real write-ups) plus a playable hub. Instead of dumping hundreds of titles with no context, we build hubs, rankings, and individual game pages that explain: what a hack actually is, who it’s for, and why it’s worth your time.
If you’ve ever searched “best Pokémon ROM hacks” and landed on a page that feels like a copy-paste list with zero guidance — this site exists to be the opposite of that.
Why RomHaven was created
Fan-made games are everywhere — but finding the best ones is weirdly hard. Search results can be a maze of dead ends: thin listicles, spammy aggregators, and pages that don’t tell you anything beyond “download here”.
RomHaven is built to solve one problem: help players discover great hacks quickly, with enough context to choose the right game — then jump in and play.
A curated, guide-driven home for fan-made games you can play online — focused on quality, clarity, and discoverability.
Pokémon, Fire Emblem, Zelda, Metroid — with more series expanding over time.Hubs → Top 10 lists → Individual game pages → Play pages.
The goal is simple: fewer clicks to get to a game you’ll actually enjoy. What makes RomHaven different?
The difference is not “more games”. It’s better pages and a better path from curiosity to play. Here’s what we optimise for:
Who RomHaven is for
If you’re new to ROM hacks…
Start with beginner-friendly lists and “best of” guides that explain what makes each pick special.
If you’re a veteran…
Use hubs and filters to find the exact vibe you want: story-driven, difficult, total conversion, multi-region, roguelike, and more.
If you just want something different…
RomHaven highlights unique concepts (villain storylines, candy-type conversions, tactical campaigns, dungeon crawls) that don’t exist in official releases.
Want a safe starting point? Try your Beginner Top 10 (if live), or browse the main Pokémon hub.
We’re building the site so you don’t need to “know the scene” to find a great game. How RomHaven works
RomHaven is organised around a simple loop: Browse → Learn → Play. That’s why pages are built with clear sections, consistent “game info” panels, and quick ways to jump to the action.

Creators & community
RomHaven exists because of the creators, designers, writers, and community testers who build these projects. Where possible, we aim to credit creators and highlight what makes each project special — not just list names.
If you’re a creator (or a fan who knows the details), use the Contact page to suggest improvements, corrections, or feature notes. The goal is accuracy and quality.
RomHaven is built to improve over time — better descriptions, better hubs, better discovery.Transparency

Do I need to download anything?
No. RomHaven is built around fast discovery and, where supported, in-browser play. Some pages will link you to the correct next step — but the goal is “less setup, more play”.
Is RomHaven free to use?
Yes. RomHaven is free to browse, and the platform is designed to be lightweight and mobile-friendly. If ads are enabled later, they help support hosting and development.
How often do you update the site?
Frequently. New games, improved write-ups, better hubs, and refreshed Top 10 lists are part of the ongoing roadmap.
Which series do you cover?
Pokémon is the flagship focus right now, alongside Fire Emblem, Zelda, and Metroid hubs. Over time, more fan-game categories will expand.
